Nicely done, but a few kinks
The game is well programmed and was very reminiscent of the motorcycle scene in Final Fantasy VII, but that may just be me. It's entertaining for a while, but it gets pretty repetitive. Plus, ramming the ATP agents doesn't seem to do anything to them. I eventually started seeing new obstacles like the vans and agents parachuting in, which was nice. It was also frustrating that obstacles would damage me, but not enemies. This would often force me to keep from shaking enemies off or ramming enemies because I had to avoid an obstacle, all the while they can hurt me without fear of impact. I may as well ignore the obstacles altogether. But still, it is a good game. The graphics are nice, and the control is simple and smooth. I always feel keeping things simple is a plus. Good job!
That FF VII scene was actually a big inspiration for the bikes. We would have liked to add melee to knock those Shinra...I mean, Madness soldiers off their bikes, but went for ramming instead. Glad you noticed :D
What Nell said.
I have to agree with NellAnder. Sometimes I'd spend a whole level just dodging sharks, or I'd run out of people, and then just spend a few minutes dodging sharks until the level counted out.
Very nice game though. Fun to play. Challenge curve is good. And it's pretty funny when I devour someone's entire torso but they're still swimming away.
Potential, but not there yet.
I know I'm not giving you a very good score, but I wanted to write a review because there's a lot of potential here. The game was interesting, but had several things that need to be ironed out. First of all, too many arrows, I kept getting turned around because there were so many arrows I wasn't sure which one lead back or wherever. Second, it was a bit too easy. I never felt like I figured out anything or solved a puzzle like in all point and click games. Since the game flat out tells you what item to use when you're attacked, you don't really solve anything. Plus the items didn't really make any sense as to why they dispelled the threats. *Spoiler Alert!!!* The ending was lacking as well. I didn't feel like I solved anything. Sure, I found out about the criminal's ghost and the Snake King, but I thought it would've been much more fun if I had to find a way to banish the ghost or avenge the spirits of the victims in some way. Instead it was just, "Ok, now we know why people die or get paralyzed when they go in there, better hang a sign on the door or something."
Now, I think you can make something really nice with this series. I love the music, and the setting and artwork are nice, and I like the creepy atmosphere of the game. It just wasn't effective as a point and click game. More like an interactive movie than a game. Address these issues and I think you'll have something really special.
Nice audition, bro. Try warming up your voice a bit more before recording though. Your enunciation needs work.
Thanks, friend-o. While I don't really warm-up, I do take several takes that I scrap until I come up with a good one. Unfortunately, I often find myself going, "Eh, good enough," when I really shouldn't. (Also, it may have had something to do with the fact that I was recording the last two-thirds of it at 4 AM)
But thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I'll do it the next time I try to voice something.
Well done!
Very family oriented. I like the premise you have here. The voice-acting is top-notch, and a good choice with the music.
mmmm.....
mmmm......that goes down real nice.....yeah.....
N-gin
N-gin took the words out of my mouth (or off my keyboard, whatever). As soon as I saw this I thought of "The Old Man and the Sea." Excellent work.
